Sports Tourism Economic Impact Calculator
The Calculator is an economic modelling tool underpinned by robust data and assumptions and is now available to sports in the Mid West at no cost.
It can estimate the economic value of events already hosted and predict the economic impact of future events.
A simple report will be provided that includes the estimated contribution of events to Gross Regional Product (GRP), real incomes and job creation in the Mid West.
The Mid West Sports Federation (MWSF) completed its Sports Tourism research project in 2019. This involved 84 events in 2018 that attracted nearly 21,500 sports tourists to the Mid West.
Analysis by economists ACIL Allen concluded that the events accounted for $9.4 million of new spending and the equivalent of 60 local full-time jobs with returns on investment of more than 6:1 within the same year.
We collaborated with the Mid West Development Commission and ACIL Allen to develop a tailored Sports Tourism Economic Impact Calculator.

How can our Club use this information?
- Rather than ‘assuming’ your event had a positive impact in the community, the Calculator uses robust economic modelling by ACIL Allen to estimate economic value
- Reports to peak sporting bodies, sponsors and funding bodies
- Affirmation to members and volunteers that their efforts have true economic value for their community
- Feedback to participants and supporters regarding the impacts of the event
Sports can cite MWSF as the provider of the estimates, using an economic modelling calculator developed by ACIL Allen
